Artist's Comments

After reading the first 6 chapters Robespierre: The Force of Circumstance, I'm beginning to realize just how unhappy Maximilien was. I already knew he wasn't the happiest of gentleman, but wow, this guy was just surrounded by real "downers."

As I was reading, I was also drawing the picture for the "Foreign" theme for the 100 challenge. Robespierre's expression slowly changed from confused and indifferent to sufficiently pissed. I also began to base him off of my favorite painting of Maxime ([link]) hence the different clothing and delightfully fluffy wig.

You'll probably notice there are parts of his clothing that are a tad-bit crooked. This is done on purpose because in this picture he's walking at a very quick pace.

Because this picture is part of a much bigger one, Maximilien is not quite finished. I liked how he looks now, and decided this would be my DeviantID. By tomorrow or the next day, the picture should be finished completely, and he'll look a lot better. (Complete with background and stalker!) I will probably not be coloring the finished work. We'll see.

[His lower half may not be so great, but good God, I'm loving his top half. Like, a little too much.]

Eee...! He looks so adorably irritated. xD

(Feh! Now you've gone and gotten ME nearly fangirling over dead people. >/)

Oh, tell me about it. The look of irritation and seriousness seems to fit Robespierre the best.

(I suppose I'm sorry? XD )

Thanks so much! It should look even better on the finished picture. (And I am glad someone else likes that painting as well. It's not as popular as the one where he looks very stern and is wearing the not-poofy wig.)
:iconakarimiyuki:
I don't know why my favourite picture that. I have seen about him many pics, but they are really stern. But there he looks kind.

Well, he looked stern with good reason. Robespierre suffered often from constipation, fatigue, insomnia, asthma, and sudden illness, so he could not look happy for very long because he was not feeling good. If I have done my research correctly, then that picture was painted on one of his better days. (It is my favorite painting for the same reason; he looks friendly in that picture.)
